Hong Kong-born Chinese actor and director Jackie Chan announced his retirement as an action star at Cannes today saying that he is too “old for stunts”.

The 58-year-old actor, who was last seen as a martial arts teacher in Karate Kid, said he felt “really, really tired”.

The Rush Hour actor, famous for his high speed, acrobatic fighting style. Is at Cannes to promote his 100th film Chinese Zodiac. Chinese Zodiac will be his last outing as an action hero.

The actor was also quoted as saying that the world has become “too violent” and that he hates “violence”.

Chinese Zodiac, which is the third in Jackie Chan’s Armour of God series, is likely to release in December this year.

The actor will continue appearing in films outside the action genre and said he wants to be the Asian Robert De Niro, not just an action star.

Jackie Chan began his career as a stuntman in the Bruce Lee films Fist of Fury and Enter the Dragon.

His first major break was the 1978 film Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow. Jackie Chan introduced the comedic kung fu genre in movies with his blend of martial arts, improvisation and humour.

He has successfully crossed over to Hollywood with movies like Shanghai Knights, Shanghai Noon and the Rush Hour series. He also voiced Master Monkey in Kung Fu Panda.

Since his shocking break-up with his erstwhile partner, and co-owner of Mo’ Hits, Dapo Oyebanjo a.k.a D’banj, prolific music producer, Don Jazzy whose real names are Collins Edjereh has maintained sealed lips until last week when he floated a new record label called Mavin Records. The label parades the brightest and the best acts from the defunct Mo’hits including Wande Coal, Dr Sid, The Prince and the new entrant, Tiwa Savage. In this interview, Don Jazzy reacts to series of rumours and speculations that trailed his over-piblicised break up with D’banj. Members of his new label also share their dreams and expectations as far as Mavin Records is concerned.

What is MAVIN all about and what inspired it?

It is spelt MAVIN Records and not Marvin. If you check the dictionary it simply refers to somebody that is a genius or a champion, a sensation, hotshot, superstar, wizkid or whatever . So basically, we decided to call the company that name because we are all geniuses in our different fields coming together in a record company.

How much would you say the event of the past few weeks have helped in the emergence of Mavin Records.

Basically, we do not believe in channeling our energies towards what has happened in the past. But basically to put up your energy to transform our future. We won’t say we don’t have the memories of things that has happened but we just pray to God that as we move forward such situations will never occur again and we pray for the best.

What have you been able to put in place to ensure that what happened in the past does not repeat itself?

We can’t really say what happened, we can’t really put a hand on what went wrong so there is nothing one can do. Individually, we will just have to do our best and keep praying that it doesn’t happen again. It’s not that anyone planned it, it happened and we are not in any position to say it’s not going to happen again. Nobody is God.

Do you in any way feel demystified about what happened, because the impression of the people out there is that you are invulnerable, not penetrable?

Demystified! I don’t really get it

(Cut in) There is this notion about Don Jazzy being somebody that is invulnerable, cannot give in, (so to say)?

Demystified? I don’t really think my integrity or my person has been damaged in any way, I believe that once you cannot hide the light, a gold fish has no hiding place. Whatever you are is like time will tell who you are. I can’t really say that people who think that they know who I am know who I am, just like some people that want to assume they know who I am by what they read or what they want to hear.

I’m not in any position to start convincing you or anyone to believe otherwise or believe anything. I just believe that at the end of the day God will vindicate all of us and you will see who we are.

What do you think will change in your transition from MO’HITS to MAVIN?

It has been a moving trend from MO’HITS to MAVIN, the only thing that has changed is the name

From MO’HITS to MAVIN and the addition of new people and basically we will keep moving. So, obviously when you are moving you hope to move from point A to point B. So we got to a point we stop we change gas, we refill and we are still going to get to point B at the end of the day.

Are you surprised about the loyalty of Wande Coal, D’Prince and DR. SID.

Am I surprised? No, I don’t see any reason I should be surprised. I’m not surprised , there is no need for me to be surprised just like I have said nothing has changed, we are still the people that we are, we are still ourselves as we dey before, na so we dey, we still dey here , and there is no cause or time to doubt any body’s loyalty.

You have a new addition to the boys, Tiwa Savage, what’s the attraction? Is she the female artiste you have always wanted on board in Mo Hits?

I have been talking about a female artiste for a long time and Tiwa Savage and I have been talking about adding a female artiste to MO’HIT Records for long time now. It’s not that we didn’t know we will end up together at some point. We knew from day one when she came into this country that this was going to happen but at that point she was not ready.

Obviously, she can’t wait and I have to encourage her to go ahead and make some things for herself and which she did wonderfully as an artiste. Now there is room for an addition and so we will continue from where we stopped.

Now let’s talk about MAVIN what is special about it and what are we expecting?

Basically, I will say that we have all seen that situations can change just like the way people perceive you, the way people accept your music, the way people talk about you and whatever. So, we know now that we need to all work harder, gather more momentum to create more music and stuffs so everybody is gingered, everybody is more fired up now to work and we don’t see anything stopping us as we are just going to put in all our energy. Now in MAVIN Records everybody is concentrating on the work and we intend to put out as much as many tracks and albums as possible. Trust me, I’m going to flood the market.

What I thought is perhaps MAVIN will introduce one artiste, one album but you are coming out with a collective album?

It’s not a group. You can tell everybody here is an individual artiste and successful on his or her own. I must say everybody have at least one to three singles already in the past so we just want to bring them out. I didn’t take part in this album, I only produced the album. This is Mavin Records everybody, please meet us; this is what we are for now. Individual album is going to follow any moment from now and there is no time to wait at all .

(Cut in) There were no singles before the release of this album?

No, there is no self formula at the moment so like I said, I don’t really like to give people that publicity stunt being anticipated. When you see it, you see it, when you see it, you take it.

Will Don Jazzy be a sole artiste on MAVIN Records or an in- house producer and the CEO?

I’m not going to say I’m never going to be an artiste but I don’t see it any time soon.

Who are you looking up to as the cash cow?

Everybody. Basically, the record label is not built in a way one person supposed to be the leader. Everybody is giving equal opportunity to grow and it all depends on how the crowd sees you. People have their opinions about what they like and stuffs like that so how you appeal to your fans will determine how they take you but we intend to put more push and more backing into everybody even the new people that we will add tomorrow.

There were so many insinuations about life in MO’HITS, that life was regimented such that when someone talks others keep quiet, how democratic is MAVIN going to be this time around?

A lot of stuffs that you guys have heard about MO’HIT Records trust me, they are really wrong, but I wouldn’t talk about MO’HIT Records because we are talking about MAVIN Records and moving forward now and I will say we would try as much as possible to communicate a lot of the truth to you guys before people insinuate all sorts of stuff like in the last three months I have seen different kinds of interviews and blogs and whatever that people have written and they say that they spoke to me.

Like I was reading a blog the other day and I saw Exclusive Phone Interview by Don Jazzy bla bla bla and they wrote like a full conversation. The person said this and I said this and that I said this and the truth is I have not had such interview with anyone. I have not spoken to any reporter this year.

Could that be true?

Yes, they are not quoting anybody they were quoting themselves may be they have one imaginary Don Jazzy they were talking to or the other because the Jazzy they quoted is not me, I really do not speak to anybody regarding any situation or any issues, I have not put out any press statement saying whatever on this issue so people just really assumed. They were quoting themselves.

Jazzy what lesson would you say you have learnt from your past experiences that may likely help you in this new movement?

DON: They are not lessons that are new. Change, like they say is the only constant thing in life and I have just confirmed again that really things happen, relationship ends, good things must come to an end they say, one will just try much as possible to see that good things that we have last for long but sometimes they do happen we just pray GOD to help us live as long as possible to see more of the good things than having the good things to end and then because I have already known there is nothing much to say now about that past. Really, my entire mind is focused on moving ahead.

Basically to put up your energy to transform our future. We wouldn’t say we don’t have the memories of things that has happened but we just pray to God that as we are moving forward that such situations never occur again and we just pray for the best.

What do you think will change in your transition from MO’HITS to MAVIN?

It has been a moving trend from MO’HITS to MAVIN, the only thing that has changed is the name.

BISSAU (AFP) – Some 70 soldiers of a west African force arrived Thursday in Guinea-Bissau on a mission to restore stability after the country’s April 12 coup, as the prime minister of a transitional government took office.

The soldiers from Burkina Faso arrived just after the Economic Community of West African states (ECOWAS) announced it was deploying a force of 629 troops to Guinea-Bissau “to relieve the Angolan military personnel (and) support the restoration of constitutional rule.”

The soldiers who ousted Guinea-Bissau’s government last month cited the 600-strong Angolan force, part of a 2010 defence cooperation agreement between the two countries, as a reason for their coup.

They claimed the Angolan troops were conspiring with the Bissau government against the army, which for years has had tense relations with civilian leaders in the chronically unstable west African state.

The first west African troops were welcomed by officers from Guinea Bissau’s police and army as well as representatives of the United Nations and ECOWAS.

Speaking at his swearing-in ceremony the same day, transitional Prime Minister Rui Duarte Barros pledged not to jail ex-prime minister Carlos Gomes Junior or former interim president Raimundo Pereira, who said Wednesday at a press conference that they do not recognise the transitional government.

“We are going to guarantee security for everyone and there will not be any prosecutions, because this country belongs to all of us,” Barros said.

Both Pereira, who came to power after the death of president Malam Bacai Sanha in January, and Gomes, who had been the favourite to win a presidential election aborted by his overthrow, were arrested during the coup and have sought refuge abroad since their release two weeks later.

Transitional President Manuel Serifo Mhamadjo, who nominated Barros on Wednesday, called on the new prime minister to “create a space for dialogue” and recommended he commission “an independent audit of the management of the country and the last presidential election”.

The coup interrupted the election between the first and second round.

Mhamadjo, who was accompanied at the swearing-in ceremony by the mastermind of the coup, army chief Antonio Indjai, was the putschists’ choice to lead the transitional government — a pick ECOWAS finally accepted despite its condemnation of the coup.

But the West African bloc’s military force will be ramping up its presence as the transitional government starts its work.

Another contingent of soldiers from Nigeria is due to join the force Friday. Senegal has also promised to take part.

The force is based at a barracks in Cumere, 35 kilometres (22 miles) from the capital.

The new government comes after putschists and 35 political parties signed an agreement on a transition period of one year until fresh elections.

Since independence from Portugal in 1974, Guinea-Bissau’s army and state have remained in constant, often deadly, conflict, and no president has ever completed a full term in office.

The country has also become a hub for drug-running between South America and Europe.

With just 12 days in the Big Brother StarGame house, Nigerian housemates, Chris and Ola, have quit the show.

P.M.NEWS learnt the duo asked for a voluntary exit from the reality show due to an escalating medical condition affecting Ola.

And in accordance with the game’s rules governing the DownVille house, where contestants play as partners, Chris has also left the series.

In a terse message made available to P.M.NEWS, the producers said, “Whilst M-Net and Endemol are deeply saddened to see these two very entertaining housemates leave the game, we remain committed to ensuring the health and safety of the contestants and therefore understand and respect the housemates’ decision.”

The producers expressed their appreciation to both the contestants for “their contribution to the show and their participation and wish them well for the future.”

With this surprise exit, the Nigerians are out of the race, leaving Afro-Pop diva Goldie, to vie for the coveted $300 000 cash prize.

Earlier during the Diary Session, Ola and Chris sat looking sombre, prompting Big Brother to ask them what was on their minds. And Ola broke the ice by declaring that after consultation with the House Doctor, he would like to voluntarily quit the Big Brother House. He said since the medication he is on, had not really improved his health, he would like to seek medical attention outside of the Big Brother House.

His partner, Chris, also wearing sombre looks, added that they understand completely the implication of their action.

“Yes, this is a game. However, we can’t play with our lives. Health is wealth,” Ola added.

The two were instructed by Biggie to leave the Diary Room and speak to their fellow Housemates, to explain the situation.

After they did, Ola and Chris then left the House with other housemates weeping.

Principal/Owner of Team Nigeria Racing Eagle, Ribi Adeshokan has disclosed that the racing team will compete soon in the GT3 series.

Speaking to Vanguard Sports in Lagos, the Motorsports manager said the team would participate in twelve races in the various races in the GT3 series when it finally enters the series.

“We are looking at ten to twelve races at least in the GT3 series as it would be heavy on us financially to compete in all of the series. This will enable our drivers rob shoulders with the best in the series as we look ahead to entering the Formula 1 someday,” Adeshokan said.

He further noted that, before the Nigerian Racing Eagles drivers would enter into the GT3 series which happens to be the International B license, they would first compete in few races before getting their pass.

“One of our drivers, Ovie Iroro would be competing this weekend in Rockingham in the UK which is just on of the four races he will be competing in to get his license to partake in the GT3 series,” Adeshokan added.

He further said that the qualification for the GT3 series is difficult as more than 5,000 drivers would be crashing the tracks as only just 20 would qualify.

Police detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, have arrested a 40-year old man for allegedly killing his one year old baby by hitting him on the floor during a quarrel with his wife. His anger stems from suspicion over the paternity of the baby.

He is now facing a murder charge at Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The man, identified as Henry Nnamdi, was alleged to have grabbed Chukwuemeka from his mother and hit him on the floor and the baby died instantly.

The incident happened at 3, Lambe Street, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.

What might have led the man to resort to such a cruel act, according to some of his neighbours, is that he might not be the biological father of the baby.

Others said he might have done that out of anger.

His wife was reportedly not spared as well. He allegedly used hot iron and inflicted injuries on her body before taking the boy and hitting him on the floor.

P.M.NEWS gathered that on the day the incident happened, Henry had serious quarrel with his wife, which resulted in the dastardly act.

The police at Okota Division were contacted and they arrested Henry for interrogation. They later transferred the matter to SCID.

The police, after investigation, charged him to court.

The presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Bolarinwa ordered that he should be remanded in prison and referred his case to the DPP for advice.

A 24-year old member of the Deeper Life Bible Church called Sarah, who resided with her elder brother at the back of Government Secondary School, Galadima Area, Gonil-Gora, Kaduna State, has been stabbed to death by her husband’s first wife.

Sarah was 5 months pregnant when the tragedy occurred.

P.M.NEWS the deceased had been dating Ade Olanipekun for long but her elder brother, David, (formerly Tajudeen) before he embraced Christianity, warned her to desist from marrying a man whose first wife has five children, but she refused to listen.

An eye-witness who gave her name as Blessing Bankole said: “It was glaring that Sarah desperately wanted to marry Ade, to the extent that she was impregnated by him.

“When the relationship started, the deceased’s brother had to go to their father at their home town at Akoko area of Ondo State, Southwest Nigeria, to dissuade his daughter from doing what was wrong. But David was shocked that their father supported the relationship, claiming that Sarah, who later converted from Islam to Christianity through her elder brother, must marry Ade.”

P.M.NEWS investigation revealed that last Saturday Ade went to pick her from her brother’s house to follow him to his house at Kampala West Nar’ya, Kaduna, where he resides with his first wife, Salamotu.

The tragedy occurred on Monday when the first wife and her husband had gone to their shop together and after about an hour, the first wife (Salamotu) told her husband that she was going home to cook for her children. And on getting home, she met the second wife sleeping.

She took a knife and stabbed Sarah to death.

She was caught in the act by one of her children who later the raised alarm. But before neighbours got inside, Sarah was dead, while the suspect was arrested in the toilet where she hid herself with the blood stained knife she used in stabbing the deceased.

She is presently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Kaduna.

She reportedly told the police that she had warned her husband not to marry another wife.

The accurate predictions by Prophet Temitope Balogun Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, are causing ripples in many southern African countries since Malawian President, Bingu wa Mutharika died of cardiac arrest on 5 April.
T.B. Joshua had on 5 February during a live Sunday service in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, predicted that within 60 days an African head of state would die suddenly due to sickness.
The prediction, P.M.NEWS learnt, was not taken seriously in many African countries until 5 April when the Malawian President collapsed during a meeting and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
The sudden death of Mutharika and the latest prediction by T.B. Joshua that another old African head of state would soon fall critically ill and be hospitalised, have thrown many African countries into panic, especially Zimbabwe, where octogenarian President, Robert Mugabe, is battling with lingering poor health.
Last year, leaked US diplomatic cables quoted the Zimbabwean Central Bank Governor, Gideon Gono, as disclosing to the American Ambassador that doctors had told Mugabe he had prostate cancer and could die in 2013.
Since Mutharika’s death, stories on T.B. Joshua, his healing, predictions and miracles have been front page news in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and a horde of other southern African countries where the 49-year old preacher and healer from Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, is extremely popular.
In Zimbabwe, it was learnt that the ruling ZANU PF is attempting to block T.B Joshua’s visit into the country scheduled for 25 May against the wishes of millions of people in Zimbabwe where T.B. Joshua has sometimes been portrayed in media reports as a power broker since Zimbabwean Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, visited his church in 2010.
T.B. Joshua’s Christian television station called Emmanuel TV which is available on satellite and on the Internet via the Streaming Faith broadcast portal is watched by millions of people in western, eastern and southern Africa.
In Cameroon, for instance, where a statement credited to the former Foreign Affairs Minister, Mr. Henri Eyebe Ayissi, once said that T.B. Joshua had been blacklisted there, Pentecostal churches have since cleared T.B. Joshua and extended an invitation to him. he is also immensely popular there.
“With regards to what our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is doing through you in your country and several other countries where you have been invited, we are delighted to say that the proof of your apostleship is not anymore a disputable matter. We also want to affirm our belief in your ministry and to present our firm conviction to the fact that you are a source of inspiration and great blessing to the church of God all over the world,” said Dr. Tsala Essomba, Founder and President, the Pentecostal Christian Churches of Cameroon, who had issued the invitation to The Man of God as T.B Joshua is referred to.
TB Joshua is renowned for prophesyingng the death of king of pop music,Michael Jackson, the resignation of Pakistan’s ex- president ,Pervez Musharraf, and the rise of the current president of Ghana, John Atta Mills, a few weeks before the events took place, as well as a recent plane crash.

IN Ibadan, Oyo State,a 71-year-old traditional religion adherent, Pa Olaniyi Ogunkunle, with his three children, was converted to Islam.

Pa Ogunkunle, who hails from Ibuso Gboro on Ibadan-Ijebu Ode road, while speaking at the conversion jointly organised by the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) in Oyo and Osun states, said that he was lured into the religion by his friend, who always preached to him about the religion of Islam.

He said that he was known as Papa “Alaja” because of the sacrifice he always made to ogun, the god of iron.

According to him, he was born into idol worshipping, got married and had all his children worshipping the idol.

He explained that he left the village and came to Ibadan with the idol, adding that this did not stop him from relating with some Muslims living around him.

However, during Quran Walimat in April 8 this year, he made up his mind to become a Muslim.

“It was after the Quran Walimat, that I called my friend who lives at Osogbo and told him about the ceremony and my intention to become a Muslim. This is how the preparations began,” he said.

He said that one of his children decided to join Islam but other could not because of the fear they had for him.

“I accepted Islam not because of anybody or because of people but because of Allah and Prophet Muhammed.

Now, my children could accept Islam as their religion,” he said.

He assured that the ogun symbol would be returned to the village since it belonged to the family and would destroy all bad charms in his possession. “I now wish to be called and addressed as Muhammed Jamiu Olaniyi Ogunkunle,” he added.

In his sermon, the former chairman of the State Pilgrims’ Welfare Board (Muslim Wing), Sheikh Luqman Busari, urged Muslims to see propagation of Islam as a task which must be accomplished.

While noting that Allah did not make it possible for some pagans to be converted even by Prophet Muhammed, he thanked Allah who made it possible for the convert, assuring that Allah would forgive him all his sins.

Abuja – President Goodluck Jonathan now eats locally produced rice and bread made from cassava as part of efforts to encourage indigenous production and stop capital flight, says Minister of Information Labaran Maku.

Maku disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday at the Ministerial Platform where the Ministries of Science and Technology, Defense, Niger Delta Affairs and the FCT presented their performance sheet in the last one year.

“The President is emphasising made in Nigeria products; if you go to the President’s house today, he eats rice produced in Ebonyi State – Abakaliki – Ofada Rice; the imported rice is not eaten in the Presidential Villa.

“Also there, he eats Cassava Bread that has just been introduced, which is saving Nigeria almost N300 billion in imports.

“From what is going on, if we emphasise and urge Nigerians to patronise the things that are researched and produced here, the country will develop.”
He said that the country would develop only when Nigerians begin to patronise goods researched and manufactured locally.

While commending the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology for its research-based development efforts, Maku said a new Science, Technology and Innovation Policy was required to promote national development.

Maku called on all stakeholders in the country to take advantage of the vast opportunities in science and technology to develop the country.

“The new Science Technology and Innovation Policy remains what is going to be the prop for the development of science and technology in our country.

“We never can develop as a nation until we pay attention to science and technology; the difference between America, Europe, Asia and us is the emphasis on science and technology and human capital development.

“I want to assure you from what you have seen that intellectual property, creativity, is what we need to advance the development of our country.”

The minister urged the science and technology ministry not to relent in promoting scientific and technological research and development, so that by 2015, a lot of the demands in Nigeria would be met.

Maku also called for collaboration between the defense and science and technology ministries for the local production of military boots.

According to him, Nigeria has a large market, which has always attracted investors. He, however, urged Nigerians to play significant roles in meeting the needs of the market. (NAN)
